First off, I would like to thank all of you who have recently subscribed to this blog. Believe it or not, I do put information on this site for your edification. I recently underwent eye surgery, and things are going well on the healing side. However, it did slow me down a bit as far as my writing goes. I love to write and I especially enjoy this segment on my blog. Somewhat random, but pertinent thoughts that mostly have to do with the subject of wine.
I did my first YouTube episode with my prescription sunglasses on. I didn’t want to share my swollen eyes with the audience. I’m stoked about this trifecta of episodes featuring white wines that begin with the letter V. The first episode will go up today (Monday, April 18th). I review wines made from Vermentino, all from Italy. Vermentino is the main white on the island of Sardinia, although it is grown throughout Italy as well as the southern part of Corsica. Australia is playing with this varietal as well as California. I’m not sure if anyone from Washington State has decided to experiment with it. Cana’s Feast Winery, located in the Columbia Gorge on the Oregon side, wouldn’t surprise me if they produced one. As a wine steward, I find great pleasure in helping people expand their palate horizons. Vermentino is a varietal that I am sure many will enjoy and perhaps become fans of. Make sure you check out my YouTube channel and see what I have been putting out there.
Speaking of the three V’s of white wine, can you venture a guess as to what the other two whites will be? I am super curious as to what you think. The next episode will feature one of the V’s that has gained quite a bit of strength in the marketplace since I first learned how to pronounce it. At the store, I have at least six to offer to my customers. I wonder what that V-wine is? Check out the episode which will go up on Thursday, April 21.
My wife Susie is diligently working on the details of our trip to India. When she first brought up the idea of traveling to this part of the world, a place neither of us have been, I wasn’t that excited. After ruminating about it for a while, I started to get very interested in traveling there. My wife has spent a lot of time researching the many attractions of India as well as their culture and she shares her research with me. The more she shares, the more excited I become at the prospect of visiting this country. India is not known for wine production, but interestingly, a wine rep. stopped by my office to present wines from her portfolio a couple of weeks ago and guess what? One of them was from India! Who knew?
Susie and I are planning a quick trip to Walla Walla and Richland in May. We both like Walla Walla and the road trip over there is very interesting. I also need to stop by Terra Blanca Winery on Red Mountain to interview Keith Pilgrim and put it up on my YouTube channel. Terra Blanca is my 2021 “Winery Of The Year”. I make my decision in December each year and spend the following year writing and YouTubing about the winery I selected as well as reviewing their wines. At the end of this year (2022) I am going to change things up a bit. The winery (which I have a sneaking suspicion as to who it will be) I choose at the end of this year (2022) will be my 2023 “Winery Of The Year”. This will eliminate any confusion, that some people have shared with me, as to why I am talking so much about a winery that I chose the year before. I hope that makes some sense. If you have any thoughts about it, stop by the store and share them with me, or make a comment here.
Cheers!
