O.K. so it’s by popular demand that I pick this wine, and I happen to agree with the consensus. I conducted a wine tasting event in September and this wine happened to be the favorite of the fourteen wines that we poured. After I tasted it myself I could understand why it was so popular. What was it that caught the attention of all those palates and mine…
2009 Artadi Vinedos de El Seque (Alicante, Spain) … $10.99
This is a blend of Mouvedre, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of blueberries, cherries and hints of apple come through on the nose. Very plush on the front of the palate with notes of black plum and boysenberry. Very smooth and seamless across the palate with some spice notes on the mid-palate and an underlying leather component throughout. Good intensity from front to back with a little tar hit and minerals on the finish which had good length. I was impressed with the structure and complexity of this modestly priced effort from Spain. Great to have all by itself, but would be an excellent compliment to lamb, stew, pizza or burgers. 90+ points
