STAN’S PICK FOR MAY 2011

Barnard Griffin non-vintage Cabernet Merlot… $9.99

I make no excuses for posting my pick so late in the month. I made my decision in April and for some reason I did not post it on my blog. Sometimes I feel like such an airhead! Needless to say, I could make this wine my pick all year when it comes to q.p.r. or quality to price ratio. As you probably have noticed, my pick of the month not only has to be a wine that is good to drink, it has to be a good value. The cab-merlot (Tulip Label) is a perfect fit for this parameter.

Notes of blackberry, vanilla and spice come through on the nose. Silky smooth on the palate showing notes of mocha, blackberry and cherry with some herbal components on the back end. The tannins are soft, but the wine has good structure giving it a lot of versatility when matching with food. A really nice bottle of wine for ten bucks that will not let you down. Match it up with hamburgers, pizza, or grilled meats. 90 points

About Stan The Wine Man

I am a blue collar wine guy who has been in the biz for over twenty years. I work at a store in a tourist destination stop. I work hard at finding the best wine for the money. I love the challenge of learning my customer's palate so I can find the best wine for them, whether it is Petrus or white zinfandel. Cheers!
