Category Archives: From My Moleskine To You…

I had a bad experience a long time ago when I was trying to choose a wine in a well stocked grocery store. I was treated very rudely by a snobby wine steward who obviously felt like I wasn’t worth his time. From that day forward I made it my mission to learn as much as I could about the wine world. With that knowledge under my belt I now make it a mission to help anyone who comes to me find a bottle that fits their needs whether it’s a white zinfandel or a bottle of Silver Oak.
To that end, I taste a boatload of wines each week (mostly samples provided by salespeople). I take notes in my faithful Moleskine and do my best to describe the wine that will be poured in your glass. There are two things that I look for in a wine that determines my grade. Is it well made (it doesn’t matter if I like it), and is it a good value (Q.P.R. > Quality-To-Price-Ratio). The one thing that I do not like in a wine is make-up (additives in wine that give it greater consume appeal). Things like Mega-Purple to give it greater depth of color, or added tannins and acidity. However, if the make-up is modest and I know that the consumer is going to like the wine, I will take that into consideration when grading it.
My main goal is to help you find a wine you will like, and that you will make you feel good about what you spent for it. I hope this segment “From My Moleskine To You” is helpful. Cheers! Stan The Wine Man

THE MOLESKINE SPEAKS ONCE AGAIN…

So, I’ve tasted many different wines so far this year, and it’s been awhile since I’ve put any reviews on my blog. I think that’s kind of weird since it’s a large part of what I do. That being what … Continue reading

WASHINGTON WINE MONTH MID-TERM REPORT CARD…

This week I tasted through a number of Washington wines. Since March is the official “Washington Wine Month” (I don’t really pay much attention to August) I thought it would be a good idea to devote my mid-month tasting notes … Continue reading
