STAN’S PICK FOR JULY ’26

Better late than never!

As is the case, I go with white wine from June through August and at times (depending on the weather) September. This month, I decided to search out a Sauvignon Blanc. As most of you who know me know, I am very picky when it comes to this varietal. So many can be sort of boring, some can be flabby, and some just are too fruity. In my opinion, Sauvignon Blanc should be vibrant and lively with acidity balancing out the fruit. I found such a Sauvignon Blanc for my July pick this year. Not only does it meet my criteria, but it is also at an awesome price.

2024 Terra Blanca Arch Terrace Sauvignon Blanc (Yakima Valley, WA)… $13.

Apple and melon notes on the nose with a savory element coming through. Penetrating acidity on the palate supports notes of apple, melon, mango, and orange zest that ride nicely into the finish, where there is a hint of minerality. Great balance and complexity, this is a well-made Sauvignon Blanc at a stupid price. Keith Pilgrim sources the fruit from a vineyard that allows the fruit to develop its flavors while maintaining the acidity. (B+)

Cheers!
