Category Archives: From My Moleskine To You…

I had a bad experience a long time ago when I was trying to choose a wine in a well stocked grocery store. I was treated very rudely by a snobby wine steward who obviously felt like I wasn’t worth his time. From that day forward I made it my mission to learn as much as I could about the wine world. With that knowledge under my belt I now make it a mission to help anyone who comes to me find a bottle that fits their needs whether it’s a white zinfandel or a bottle of Silver Oak.
To that end, I taste a boatload of wines each week (mostly samples provided by salespeople). I take notes in my faithful Moleskine and do my best to describe the wine that will be poured in your glass. There are two things that I look for in a wine that determines my grade. Is it well made (it doesn’t matter if I like it), and is it a good value (Q.P.R. > Quality-To-Price-Ratio). The one thing that I do not like in a wine is make-up (additives in wine that give it greater consume appeal). Things like Mega-Purple to give it greater depth of color, or added tannins and acidity. However, if the make-up is modest and I know that the consumer is going to like the wine, I will take that into consideration when grading it.
My main goal is to help you find a wine you will like, and that you will make you feel good about what you spent for it. I hope this segment “From My Moleskine To You” is helpful. Cheers! Stan The Wine Man
