As most of you know, I will be switching to reds starting in September, unless, of course, I run across an exceptional white wine. The weather right now screams for a white wine. I’ve found one for this month that is an exceptional value from a beautiful area in Italy: Soave!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soave is made from a grape called Garganega, which is highly revered in this part of Italy. There are two areas of Soave. The hillside vineyards and the valley floor. The Soave Classicos come from the hillside vineyards. Although the valley-floor vineyards often produce mass-produced wines, which is a problem for Soave’s reputation ( I won’t mention names), there are some well-made wines produced in this area as well. However, a well-made Soave from the hillside vineyards or the valley floor is a delight to drink, and my pick of the month fits into that category, at a very reasonable price. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 Famelia Adalia Soave “Singan” (DOC, Soave, Italy)… $12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earthy on the nose with notes of melon a slight hit of peach and some interesting fibert and saline notes. Peach, pear, and melon notes hit on the front of the palate and flow into the finish with a kiss of white pepper. Fresh acidity balances the fruit notes with trace mineral notes coming through. Good balance and integration; this baby is a “10” in the delicious category. (B-\/B)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
